Hawks Newsletter April 2018

Hawks, Congratulations on a great weekend!

The Michigan Hawks earned 17 out of 21 points in games vs their DA opponents Nationals and Sockers out of Chicago at Schoolcraft this last weekend.

The 04s got all 6 points with the lone goal coming from Maya Carter on Saturday and then the game winner by Juliana Karkaba followed by Eliza Fisher, Lauen Moritis and Abby Zugay on Sunday.  The 2004 Hawks end up with a  2-0-1 record versus Nationals for the year.

The 2003s pulled away from Nationals on Saturday with 3 second half goals, the game winner by Brooke Steere 30 minutes from the end. The final score of 5-2 was the same scoreline in the teams’ first meeting. In Sunday’s game the 03s won 2-0 versus the Sockers, getting goals from Brooke again and the other by Sam Woods to take all 6 points for the weekend. They remain in 1st place in the conference. They also end up 3-0 for the season against the Nationals.

The 2001 Hawks got 4 out of 6 points, denied all six because of a last kick of the game goal by the Nationals on Saturday. The 2001s got the game winner by Emma Hiscock on Sunday to cap off a very well played weekend.

The 2000s Hawks settled for a 2-2 on Sunday, giving up a PK in the last 2 minutes after out shooting the Sockers 25-2 in their only game of the weekend.  They remain on top of the conference with 6 games to play. Natalie Viggiano and Sam Lopez scored for the Hawks. Thanks for all the support to all that came, I think the girls are in good form and are enjoyable to watch right now.  Congratulations again and good luck the rest of the spring.

ECNL Identification
Clinics for birth year 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006
The Michigan Hawks will be hosting ECNL ID Clinics for 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 birth years on April 27th at Schoolcraft College.  These clinics will allow players from inside and outside the club to come and experience the Hawks’ Culture. This can be an important information gathering step with tryouts just around the corner.
These youngest age groups will be the priority of the ECNL next year and will be involved in some of the ECNL’s best identification and development programs. The ID2 Program, a US Clubs program, which the ECNL is associated with, selects within the youngest ECNL age groups.  This program invites kids to regional events to play and train with the possibility of an invitation to the National ID2 camp at the Nike complex in Portland, Oregon in August.  The ECNL also features their PDP program which selects players to participate in regional events based on play within the ECNL.  The regional events are used to help identify players not yet on the Youth National Team radar and just as importantly, to help players get exposed to different coaches, players and potentially a completely different level of play.

The ECNL is the best league for your daughter’s competitive youth soccer experience.  It is the only top league in the country that allows every player to play in all of games.  Come see what the ECNL is all about!

Michigan Hawks Players and Families:
After several months of discussion, we have decided that the Michigan Hawks will not play in the US Development Academy League in 2018-2019. We will commit our teams into the ECNL for this next season, joining several other top clubs across the country who are doing the same. We believe that the ECNL platform will allow us to address the game day needs of all of our players by placing us against the most competitive regional competition possible. This decision will only affect the Hawks. The Wolves’ programming for the boys—including the Development Academy—will carry on in the same way that it has this year.
Furthermore, next year we will be adding to our training by increasing the amount of film study and GPS usage. That coupled with the Medsport program that will address performance, prevention and return to play of our players, we are confident that our players will continue to move forward.
There are risks involved with making this decision much like when we implemented 10-month programming. But, after weighing out the pros and cons, I believe that this is the right decision for our players and our club. It will be up to us, players, parents, and staff to make this work.
ECNL Announcement The Girls ECNL is excited to announce that FC Stars, Michigan Hawks & PDA will be “All-In” clubs in the league! @starsofma, @Hawks_Wolves & @PDASoccer will join the list of 79 “All-In” clubs for the 2018-19 Season, with more to come.
