Hawks 04 Black – Texas ECNL Showcase 2019 Recap

On Friday, February 15th, Coach Derek Williford’s Hawks 04 Black team began their journey to Houston, Texas, to compete in their second ECNL National Showcase of the 2018/19 Season.

Game # 1 kicked off early Saturday morning at 8:00 am under cloudy skies, wet grass, and a chilly mist in the 50 degree air. Despite the wet conditions the Hawks dominated possession against a gritty hometown team, Challenge SC, but still found the halftime score square at 0-0. After going down 1-0 early in the second half, Coach Williford and his team were able to grind out 2 second half goals to notch their first win of the weekend at 2-1.

Sunday’s game was against McLean ECNL out of Virginia and was a back and forth battle from the opening whistle. The match was quite physical and was hard fought from both sides. The game was extremely exciting, included four lead changes and was very well attended by college coaches from around the country. At the final whistle, the Hawks prevailed with great teamwork and four different goals scorers to earn a well deserved 4-3 victory.

The final games of the ECNL Texas Showcase were played on very cool and windy President’s Day. The Hawks 04 Black girls were matched up against South Carolina United ECNL out of Columbia, SC. Althouth the Hawks surrendered a very early goal in the match, they composed themselves quickly and ended up controling most of the game then ultimately winning by a final score 4-1.
