For all of its many negatives, one positive from having a mandated quarantine is that it has provided time for reflection. Given that soccer has played a defining role in my life, many of those thoughts have centered, not on particular successes or failures, but on the feelings associated with specific teams and coaches.
The current governing board of the Michigan Hawks, as did the founders of our club, has a vision of what we want to provide for every player that wears the Hawks jersey. We aim to deliver an experience where all of our players feel supported and have access to the resources they need to achieve their individual goals.
In addition to having time to reflect, the quarantine has also given me the chance to re-read some of my favorite books. Just the other day I was reacquainted with this Maya Angelou quote: “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
As we are in the process of compiling the testimonials to our founders and editing the clips provided by our soon-to-be mentors, it is clear that our former players view their time with the Hawks as being a special period in their lives.
It is my hope and desire that when your daughter takes off her Hawks jersey for the final time, whether it was adorned with an ECNL, National League or MSPSP patch, that she will look back fondly at her time in our club.
