McEachern Earns ACC Defensive Player of the Week Honors

Red Shirt Freshman helps Pitt go 2-0 to begin the season

PITTSBURGH – After a pair of back-to-back shutouts to open her collegiate career, Pitt goalkeeper Katelyn McEachern has been named the ACC’s Defensive Player of the Week.

McEachern played the entirety of both games, recording 190:42 minutes in 1-0 wins over Hofstra and Duquesne. The redshirt freshman tallied eight saves, as the Panthers shutout both the Pride and the Dukes en route to a 2-0 opening record.

The league award is the first for the program since Taylor Pryce was named the ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 29, 2015 following a pair of game winning goals over Wake Forest and Louisville.

Hawks Travel To Adidas HQ in Portland For ESP

Fresh from an outstanding season that saw the Michigan Hawks win 2 National Championships and reclaim the title of the best girls soccer club in the country for the second time in three years, 18 players from the 02 and 03 Hawks were invited to take part in the adidas Elite Soccer Program.

Generation adidas Elite Soccer Program (“ESP”) is the most prestigious and premium experience open to 2002 and 2003 players in America. ESP’s pinnacle annual event is an invitation-only week long immersion that gathers the “best of the best” players to compete on the pitch and bond off it.

Hawks ESP players were able to engage with widely recognized experts in their fields on various subjects such as the competitive mind set, coping with adversity, succeeding where others fail, keys to peak performance, nutrition, training & equipment necessary to optimize performance.

Coach Landefeld :

This is a wonderful initiative by Adidas to promote girls soccer in this country. As a club, we are extremely honored to participate with our partner for 30 years in an event that celebrates and empowers female soccer players. We would like to thank Jason Davis and Generation Adidas for the amazing time and effort they have put into making this event an unforgettable experience for our Hawks players.

Recap of Hawks ECNL weekend vs Minnesota Thunder

This last weekend proved to be a positive start for all the Hawks’ teams as they started into the spring portion of their ECNL Spring Season.
The U14, 03s, had no problem dismantling MTA.  Both games featured lots of goals, with the Hawks winning 5-0, 5-0 and securing all 6 points and move into first place in the conference.
The U15s, 02s, struggled through a very tough game on Saturday, only a goal by Joyelle Washington in the first half, that would end up proving to be the difference.  Sunday was much easier as they scored early and often, winning 5-1 to remain on top of the Midwest Conference table.
The U16s, 01s, lost on a close match on Saturday. MTA got an early goal in the second half to hand the Hawks their first conference loss of the season.  The Hawks responded on Sunday with 2 goals by Sydney Kloosterman and 1 by Gabby Tremonti to get the points and remain in first place in the Midwest.
The U17s, 00s, got two big wins as they look to climb into the National Playoff picture. They got all 6 points with a 1-0 win on Saturday on a goal by Kelsey Adams and then an easy 5-0 win with 3 goals by Michelle Cooper.
The U18s, 99s, had the featured night game on Saturday night.  In a game that featured over 300 fans  8 goals and two U20 National Team players,  the Michigan Hawks prevailed in a very exciting 5-3 win.  Superb goalkeeping by Maya Bellomo and goals by 5 different Hawks, Lexxe Lipsey, Maddy Wolfbauer, Izzy Rodriguez, Maggie Samanich and Maddie Myers may for a great night for all that attended.  Video of the game.
Sunday’s game had less fans and less goals but still ended in a Hawks’ win, 2-1, with goals from Maddy Wolfbauer and a extra time winner by Maddie Myers.  With the points, the 99s qualified for the National Championship playoffs and will have a chance to repeat as National Champions!!!
Come see the ECNL teams play the Chicago Sockers this coming Sunday at Schoolcraft College.
